Jeri Kay Bedingfield, 67, of Abilene, passed away at her home on Sunday, April 6, 2025. A memorial service will be at the First Methodist Church, 202 Butternut Street, on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Greg Rake officiating. Interment will be at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Kay was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Milton and Dorothy Bedingfield on September 8, 1957. Her family moved to Abilene in 1965 so Kay could receive services from the West Texas Rehab. With this support, she was able to have a very successful career. Kay graduated from Cooper High School in 1975 at the top ten percent of her class. She graduated from McMurry College to continue her education. She worked for Tippett and Gee from 1982-1988 prior to going back to school at ACU for an education degree. Kay worked at Good News Bookstore, Sam’s Club and the ACU Library while continuing her education.

Upon completing her education degree, she worked as a substitute teacher. She began her teaching career at Locust Elementary in 1991 and retired from Bowie in 2020. Kay loved teaching and her many special education students. She was a talented artist and was very creative. She used these skills with her students throughout her career. During her vacation time, she loved traveling with Bilbrey Tours.

Kay was a member of First Methodist Church in Abilene where she taught children’s Sunday School for over 40 years.

Kay had many pets throughout her life. She especially loved cats. She is survived by her cat Luna and many cousins. She loved her family and often showed pictures of them. She shared wonderful stories about her family. Kay will be missed by her family, church family and her many co-workers and friends.
