Jean Pirtle Whitworth

November 4, 1941 — September 22, 2023

Jean Pirtle Whitworth, beloved mother, daughter, and dedicated nurse, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones in Abilene, TX. She was born on November 4, 1941, in Joplin, MO, to her loving parents, Ruth and Curtis Pirtle.  She married Norman Whitworth on September 7, 1985.

Jean's compassionate spirit led her to pursue a career in the healthcare industry, where she dedicated herself to caring for others as a nurse.  She graduated from Hendrick nursing school in 1975 and spent 25 years as an LVN serving others at both the Abilene State School and Abilene Regional Medical Center.  Her commitment to providing comfort and healing touched the lives of countless patients and their families throughout her remarkable career.  She was a faithful member of Elmcrest Baptist Church and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

She is survived and deeply cherished by her loving daughter, Kim (Daniel) Stovall bonus daughter Tamra (Mike) Cotton and bonus son Van (Marie) Whitworth, grandchildren, Kara (Kyle) Cotton, Bethany (Brycen) McGee, Andrew (Hannah) Stovall, Hannah Whitworth, Hailey Whitworth and Abby Stovall, great grandchildren, Chloe, Brayden, Kaid, Christian, Harper, Carson and Madilynn.  In addition, she is survived by a sister Kay (Danny) Tollison and sister-in-law Evonne Whitworth as well as several nieces and nephews. Jean's memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Norman, a sister Ann and a grandson Tanner Whitworth.

The family invites relatives, friends, and members of the community to join them in a celebration of Jean's life. A public viewing will be held on September 23, 2023, at Piersall Funeral Directors at 10:00 am to pay respects and honor Jean's remarkable journey. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 pm in the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca.

Jean was a giving and compassionate person, always putting others first.  She was always making and sending cards to those she loved.  Her church was very important to her, and she headed up Operation Christmas Child for many years.  She would cook, clean, or do anything else needed for her church and church family.  After she and Norman married and moved to the farm, she gained a love for farm animals and taking care of them and the yard.  She grew wildflowers and was always sharing seeds with others.

She loved being a Mamaw more than anything else and was an active part of her grandkid’s lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Alpha Omega Hospice or Elmcrest Baptist Church in Jean's honor.
