Janie Hernandez, 71 of Abilene, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive, with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation and Rosary will be on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Janie was born on September 15, 1952 in Georgetown, Texas to Augustine and Louisa Seballos. She was the third of ten children in her family. Janie graduated from Anson High School in 1972 and later relocated to Abilene, where she spent the rest of her life.
Janie began her career with the Texas Attorney General’s Office, working there from 1980 to 1987, after which she joined Hendrick Medical Center in 1988, where she remained until her retirement. Throughout her career, Janie primarily worked in human resources, enabling her to recruit and become acquainted with numerous healthcare professionals who continue to work at Hendrick to this day.
Janie was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She had a passion for music and dancing, and she was known as a Tejana dancing queen!
Janie was a devout Christian and a long-time member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church in Abilene. She was a caring and empathetic person, always willing to help others and serve the Lord. Janie had a bright and friendly personality, and she enjoyed capturing special moments at family gatherings by taking pictures and sharing them with those she loved. She was also a dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and never missed a game. Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking, baking, and watching her favorite novellas.
Above all, Janie will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family. She had a unique bond with her siblings and cherished their regular gatherings. Janie considered her greatest accomplishment to be her children and grandchildren. She created a legacy of love with each of them, which will continue beyond her lifetime.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Joe Seballos, Augustine Seballos, Jr., Charlie Seballos and Lupe Garcia, sister Idella Villa and daughter Jenny Espinoza. She is survived by her children, daughters Rebecca Rocha and husband Fernando and Cristal Hernandez; son Raymond Hernandez and wife Christina; brothers Robert Seballos and Victor Seballos; sisters Maggie Seballos-Landvatter and Yolanda Seballos Ortega; son-in-law Zach Espinoza; grandchildren Marsella Rocha, Gabriela Torres, Michael Torres, Juan Rocha, Jr., Adrian Rocha, Luis Barrientes, Jaedyn Laningham, Caia Espinoza, AbbaGayle Espinoza and Amaris Espinoza, Jordan Williams, Christian Williams and Noah Arrendondo; plus many nieces and nephews.
