Janice Harper Decker

Janice Harper Decker was born in Shreveport Louisiana on January 17,1940 to Elsie Emily Harper and Jesse Lee Harper. She entered the world just a few minutes ahead of her identical twin sister Jeanette. Janice attended Byrd High school and then furthered her education at Abilene Christian College where she met the love of her life Roger Edward Decker.

Roger and Janice married on June 11,1960. Together they chose Abilene as their permanent home and started their family. Rene, their first daughter, was born May 1963 and their second daughter, Susan, joined the family in February 1967. Janice stayed at home to raise her two girls and loved being a stay home mom. She worked at Taylor Elementary school library when her girls were in school then later worked at Abilene Christian University as secretary for the Social Work and Sociology department. She loved her job, but when her grandkids were born, she decided to retire to help take care of them.

Spending much time with her grandchildren brought Janice great joy. Janice was active in her church and loved the Lord with all her heart. God, Roger and family were always her top priority. She was a wonderful loving mom and grandmother. Janice passed on to Heaven at the age of seventy-nine on November 22, 2019 due to her battle with cancer.

Janice is proceeded in death by her parents Jesse Lee Harper and Elsie Emily Harper, 3 brothers. one sister and her grandson Hayden Richard Edward Hoemke. She is survived by her husband Roger Edward Decker, daughters Emily Rene Harrison and her husband Doug, Susan Jeanette Hoemke and her husband Carl, her twin sister Jeanette Malone and her husband William, and 5 grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Saturday November 30, 2019 at 1:00 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St with a service to follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel.
