Our precious mother, Jacque Ayers, passed from this life on November 4, 2024, as her daughters and family handed her to God. Mother said so many times in her prayers, “Lord, lead me gently home.” We rejoice with her as she has made it to her beautiful heavenly home.
Jacqueline (Jacque) Harrison Ayers was born in Pattonville, Texas to Roy W. and Bessie Lee (Tow) Harrison on September 14, 1935, 45 minutes after her twin, Doyueline (Dot). She was the eighth of nine children.
She attended school in Paris, Texas until her family moved to the County Line community, east of Abernathy, Texas where her family resided on the Hufstedler place. Jacque graduated from Abernathy High School in 1953 and moved to Midland, Texas where she completed studies at Draughon’s Business School. While living in Midland, she met Douglas George Ayers, and they were married on October 26, 1956.
Jacque and Doug moved many times due to Doug’s work in the oil and gas industry, and Jacque never failed to make each house a home for her girls, Patti Lynn, Mitzi Eleis and Terri Jenae. Wherever they lived, Jacque was very involved in church and her girls’ school activities. She and Doug often had to divide and conquer due to how involved and busy their girls were. Many of the girls’ friends would spend time in their home and would confide in the girls that they wish they had parents like Jacque and Doug. Jacque, being Jacque, never met a stranger and extended a hand of friendship to all.
Wherever Jacque and Doug lived they were involved in church. Jacque made sure her daughters regularly attended church and encouraged them to be involved at every church attended. Jacque was known for her great cooking for church gatherings, particularly at 37th Street Church of Christ in Snyder, Texas, Aledo Church of Christ, Aledo, Texas and South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford, Texas. In these places, Jacque and Doug developed life-time friends and their faith deepened.
Jacque and Doug moved to Abilene in 2007 and quickly got involved at Hamby Church of Christ after having lived in Weatherford, Texas for 25 years. Doug passed away one year later and after Jacque’s deep grief lessened, she volunteered at Christian Service Center, Rose Park Senior Citizens and Hendrick Hospice in Abilene. Jacque helped with Hospice luncheons for many years, touching the lives of many.
As many have shared with Jacques’ daughters, Jacque was the sweetest, kindest and the most loving person they ever met. As sweet as she was, she was just as stubborn and that is the side most people never saw.
Jacque’s love for nature, her garden and her love for her children, their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was never ending. MyMommy was her other name, and she loved her role as a grandparent and great-grandparent. Jacque was a wonderful gift giver, and this influenced her family to continue this legacy. As it has been said “you can’t out give or out love MyMommy.”
Jacque was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Douglas George, and her great-granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Aldriedge.
Surviving Jacque are her daughters and sons-in-law, Patti Lynn (Greg) Pavlik, Mitzi Eleis (Foy) Mills and Terri Jenae (Mark) Aldriedge. Continuing Jacque’s legacy are her grandchildren, Whitney Mills (Josh) Kasinger, Joshua (Tina) Pavlik, Lindsey Mills (Tim) Kennedy, Jeffery (Jacyln) Pavlik, Shay (Emily) Aldriedge and Jace (Julia) Aldriedge. She was also blessed by great-grandchildren, Jordan Riley, Ella Paige, Joshua Braeden and Emmalee Anne Kasinger, Duncan Scott and Caleb Gregory Pavlik, Lucas Foy and Audrey Kate Kennedy, Vivian Belle and Lillian Reese Aldriedge, and baby Jack Wayne Aldriedge due in April.
Jacque will be missed by all.
We are thankful to all those who provided such loving and gentle care to our mother while she was at Hendrick Hospice Care, and to the loving and caring staff at Chisholm Court where Jacque resided for six weeks before being placed in hospice care.
A celebration of life for Jacque will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St, Abilene, Texas.
