Ida Mae Sikes, 98, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at a local care center. A service honoring her life will be held Saturday, May 29 th at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. with a time of visitation to follow.
Ida Mae was born on February 28, 1923, to Royal Amos Hawley and Mamie Agnes Hutchings Hawley in Elbert, Texas. She was the ninth of ten children. After graduating high school, she went on to attend business college in Bryan, Texas. While living in Bryan, she met the love of her life, Robert Elbey Sikes. They married on October 25, 1942. They were long-time members of Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio and Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ in Austin.
Ida Mae is survived by her daughters, Reba D. Roe (Roger Roe); Julie A. Pruett (Randy Pruett); and her son Robert Eugene Sikes (Mary Reyes Sikes); 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren (and another on the way); and 1 great-great-grandchild. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Elbey Sikes; her daughter Roxie Lynn Oswald Schussler; two brothers and seven sisters.
