Gary Gilbreath left this earth on his final mission at 10:44 am September 25, 2019.
Gary was born July 31, 1947 in Bates, AR and attended school in Arkansas and Texas. After high school Gary enlisted in the United States Army and served bravely in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968 in the 299th Combat Engineer Division. After the Army he was very successful in the oil marketing business, working for the Permian Corporation. He was an avid musician, song writer and shared music with thousands through his country dance band SideKick. Music was a big part of his life and so was his entire family.
He married his wife of 48 years, Deborah Mabry on January 8th, 1971 in Fritch, Texas. His parents were Elton and Faye Gilbreath. He is survived by his wife Debbie, son’s; Greg and Jeff Gilbreath, one brother Danny of Fritch, TX, two sisters; Pam Jackson and Debbie Huff of Fitch, TX, and eight amazing grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as many very special nieces and nephews.
Gary truly earned his wings, he was a pilot and loved flying his family and friends around in his airplane, Good Ole (N6227) Mooney.
A visitation with the family will be held Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A graveside service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 am in the Texas State Veteran Cemetery at Abilene.
