Frank Hobbs

May 25, 1923 — December 4, 2020

Franklin Junior Hobbs, 97, passed away peacefully at his home in Abilene, Texas on December 4, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife Roxie and stepson, Steve Williams.

Frank was born in 1923 to Thomas Edgar and Lula Jane Hobbs in Atlanta, Texas. He was the last of 10 children and was named after their first born child who died at age 2. His family ran a large farm in East Texas and were beloved members of their community before moving to Colleyville,Texas. He married Roxie Daniels in 1962 and became a father and friend to Roxie’s four children and then added one more child together. He is survived by those he lovingly referred to as “the kids”: Linda Venable and husband Vester, Roy (Buddy) Davis and wife, Penny, Roxie Lee Walker, Sandie Williams and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; his daughter Frankie Montgomery and husband Monty; grandson, Seth Montgomery and wife Carlee, and granddaughter, Leah Jane Montgomery.

Frank, affectionately known by his family as Junior, and his wife, Roxie, attended the Smithfield Church of Christ and enjoyed years of friendship with that church family. He worked many years as a truck driver and often shared interesting stories of pulling mobile homes across the country in various kinds of weather and roads. Frank was a kind and sweet gentleman, ever the generous host his entire life. He was known for his quiet nature, mischievous grin and being willing to help others in need. His patient acceptance of whatever life handed him - other than the loss of his wife, Roxie 27 years ago - was respected by all who knew him. His kindness and deep appreciation for the care provided to him these last few years have been a tender example to his family and honored well those who went before him. Most importantly, he fiercely loved his family and felt that love returned.

A family celebration of his life will occur when it is safe to gather again. Arrangements for a private burial in Grapevine, TX are pending.
