Our Beloved Frances Jewell Copher was gracefully escorted into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 30, 2022, in Weatherford, TX, surrounded by her family as they sang her favorite hymns over her. Frances journey in this life was 84 years of strong faith and devotion to Christ and her family. Memorial service and celebration of her legacy will be Friday, August 5, 2022, at 2:00 P.M., at Piersall Funeral Directors at 733 Butternut St. in Abilene, Texas, with burial to follow at Hamby Cemetery at 4:00 P.M.
Frances was born in Jones County on January 18, 1938 to H.P. and Jewel Lilly. She was raised in a home where the word of God was the standard of life. She had a close relationship with her father, and he took her everywhere he went. Her strong faith in Christ was her anchor during many heartaches and losses she experienced as a young woman, and throughout her life. The joy of the Lord truly always has been her strength. One Christmas morning, she met the love of her life, Charles Copher. She and Charles were married two months later in 1956 and began building their family together. They brought 4 healthy children into this world, 3 sons and one daughter. Their lives were not perfect, they endured heartbreaking loss and had struggles most could not withstand. Because of their devotion to each other and to Christ, they weathered every storm, hand in hand.
Frances, “Mom”, “ Mema”, was a true Proverbs 31 woman. Her greatest joy came from time with family and friends, especially singing together, and eating, of course. She was a minister to her family by displaying the Love of Christ. She loved the LORD, her family, and her Church family, Woodlawn Church of Christ, where she was a member for a number of years, and faithfully attended.
She had many gifts and talents. She loved to cook and was incomparable at her signature dishes! She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, sew, and many other things, but the thing she did best of all was LOVE unconditionally. Frances is still alive. The same spirit that shined through her eyes when she smiled is still very much alive and she is seated with Christ at this very moment. She leaves behind on this Earth a true legacy of serving others with joy, and she will always be a beautiful example for her children, grandchildren, all the generations to come, and all who were blessed to have known her.
She is preceded in death by her father H.P. Lilly, her mother Jewel Lilly, husband Charles Copher, all of her siblings; Dorothy, Donna, Yvonne, Flora, Olivia, Brenda, Cleburne and Loy H., her son Paul Copher, and her grandson Vincent Copher. She is survived by her children; Gregory Copher, Cynthia Davis, Mark Copher and wife Sheila. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
