Eldon Forrest Herndon, Jr. 66, beloved Husband, Father and Pawpaw, went to be with his heavenly Father, on August 2, 2021. He was born on July 21, 1955, in Midland, TX, to Eldon and Mary Herndon.
Forrest attended Robert E. Lee High School and graduated in 1973. He went on to attend Abilene Christian University and graduated with a degree in Agriculture in 1977. After graduation, Forrest began work for Arco in Midland. His family attended Golf Course Road Church of Christ for most of Forrest's childhood. Growing up, Forrest had always been a part of helping his father with a small farm they had in Andrews. While attending Golf Course Church of Christ, Forrest met Kirsten Spell in 1982. Friendship later grew into dating and on August 15, 1987, they married at Golf Course Road Church of Christ. Their shared faith and love for Jesus was the foundation for their courtship and marriage. They lived in Midland for five years. During that time Bryce and Brittni were born. Then in 1992 they moved to Abilene so that Forrest could help his father work on their family farms and ranches in Trent, TX.
In Abilene, Forrest helped his father with the farms as well as working other various jobs, and Kirsten worked as a Speech Language Pathologist. Forrest then purchased Buffalo Gap Self Storage in Buffalo Gap. During this time, Lynzee was born. As time went on, the family farms were sold and the family business was replaced with rental property in Abilene. Forrest became an entrepreneur, in helping grow the family business. It was of upmost importance to Forrest to build this family business that would provide for the future of his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, he truly loved the game of baseball. He was a big fan of the Houston Astros. He attended baseball games in Boston, Houston, Dallas, St louis and Chicago and went to 5 World Series games. Forrest collected baseball memorabilia as well.
Most importantly, Forrest studied the scriptures and loved sharing his faith in Jesus to others. He would often send text message scriptures and songs to his wife and children to encourage and uplift them. For Forrest it was God, Jesus, and his family.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Kirsten Herndon; son Bryce McLain Herndon of Abilene; daughter, Brittni Michele Herndon, of Abilene, daughter, Lynzee Paige Herndon of Pflugerville; granddaughters; Bailee Hope Herndon and Kynzee Elaine Pitcock of Abilene and uncle Jack Herndon, of Abilene. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, his two sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
