Frosty Sumner, 88, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024. A memorial service will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Road, with Danny Minton and Jerry Heiderich officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery on West Lake Road in Abilene. Arrangements are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Frosty was born July 9, 1935, to Forrest E. and Neva Mae Everly Hagan in Sioux City, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School and attended Harding University and Abilene Christian College graduating with a Texas teaching certificate. She taught Spanish in Texas, California and Missouri junior high and high schools. She loved her students and loved teaching them. Many students continued to stay in contact with her, testimony to the mutual love and respect they had for one another.
On August 10, 1968, Frosty married Darrell Sumner in Springfield. They would enjoy the next forty seven years teaching and going on many mission trips for the church, serving in countries like Nicaragua, Honduras and Brazil. Darrell loved to take Frosty on vacations to Spanish speaking countries such as Spain, Peru and Mexico. They also attended Pan-Am Lectureships in Mexico, Peru and Ecuador. They retired in Abilene in 2002 to continue their mission trips with the Southern Hills Church of Christ. A huge added bonus for her was ministering to and loving many Bhutanese refugees brought to Abilene by the International Rescue Committee
Frosty was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her parents, Forrest and Neva Hagan and her sister Bernadine Egly. Her surviving family consists of many close Christian friends and their adopted son, Jerry Heiderich. She also considers many members of the Bhutanese community, who dearly loved her, as family including Ganga, as a daughter, Chandra, Prashan, Aditya, Goma and Russell Thapa as her grandchildren.
Darrell, her sister and her parents have welcomed Frosty with open arms, showing her the wonders of Heaven and the joys of eternal life with Jesus and her LORD.
