Evelyn Irene Butcher

Evelyn Irene Butcher, 89, of Abilene, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2021.  A Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, Abilene, TX.

Evelyn was born on February 16, 1932 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to Fay and Macie Hickman.  Irene, as everyone knew her, married Boyd P. Butcher on June 1, 1951 in San Antonio, Texas and they were happily married for 58 years. Irene, was a devoted military wife, following her husband to Turkey and Germany and raising their 3 sons.  Irene spent 25 years as a Trust Associate for Frost Bank in San Antonio.  While in Germany and in San Antonio, she was involved in Cub Scouts, church work, a bowling league and sang with the Mission Belles. Irene moved to Abilene to be closer to family in 2012 after the passing of her husband.  She was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents Fay and Macie Hickman; husband Boyd Butcher; sisters: Hazel Sindledecker, Mae Lowers, Patricia Current and Louise Hickman.  She is survived by many who loved her, including brother Paul Hickman of Marietta, Ohio; sister Lois Carvell also of Marietta, Ohio; sons; Robert Butcher and wife Marlene of Abilene, Mark Butcher and wife Lisa of Cloudcroft, New Mexico and Steven Butcher and wife Paula of Lancaster, Texas.  In addition, she is survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as several extended family members and friends whom she loved dearly.
