Etta Dean "Rusty" Musgrave

January 5, 1927 — April 13, 2017

Etta Dean “Rusty” Musgrave passed away peacefully in her home Thursday April 13, 2017.  She was surrounded by her loved ones and is now in the arms of the Lord.  She was 90 years old.

She was born January 5,1927 to Claren and Clara “Tilly” Johnson.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Kenneth Musgrave, her brother Jim Johnson, her sister Betty Roberts, brother-in-law Tom Roberts and son-in-law Chris Labay.  She will be lovingly remembered by her five children; Bruce Musgrave and wife Teresa of Bluff Dale, Texas, Kenneth P. Musgrave and wife Patti of Weatherford, Texas, Debbie Bixby and husband Bruce of Abilene, Texas, Debi Labay of Blanket, Texas and Gary Musgrave and wife Becky of Abilene, Texas. Her grandchildren are Misty Joseph and Windy Joseph, Brooke Bixby, Kristen Bartis, Jana Lee, Cassie Nigo, Kasey Miller, McKinley Charleville, Raven King, Sheena Sihvonen, Meggan Woodman and Hunter Musgrave as well as sixteen adorable great-grandchildren.  Rusty will also be greatly missed by her beloved brother Bruce Johnson and sister-in-law Joyce of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sister-in-law Joyce Johnson of Dallas, Texas; nieces Donna Farnsworth and family of Stowe, Massachusetts; Karla Peterson and family of Dallas, Texas, and Anne Marie Hughes and family of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; nephews Kelly Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Steve Roberts and family of Wichita, Kansas and Dale Johnson and family of Atlanta, Georgia as well as other extended family and close friends.

After graduating high school in 1944 from Holdenville High School, Oklahoma, Rusty entered Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma.  She was active in many different clubs and activities but especially loved performing in the choir.  She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice.

Rusty was a homemaker and mom.  She loved to sew, garden and to her family’s delight, cook and bake.  Some other passionate hobbies included playing bridge with so many wonderful friends through the years, working cross-word and board puzzles, and making sure all of her many bird feeders were kept full.  She loved watching “her” birds through the windows.

Rusty will be missed by so many who loved and adored her.  She had a smile for everyone she met.  She was a member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ.

The family wants to acknowledge and honor Rusty’s faithful and loving caretakers.  Because of these extraordinary women, Rusty had the joy of living in her own home until the time of her death.  They became part of the family and are deeply loved and appreciated for their devotion, respect, love and care for Rusty.  She loved you Linda, Kiersten, Jennifer, Sarha, Brandi and Pam...Thank you for the love and pure joy you gave to her life.

The family also wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at Beyond Faith and Hospice of the Big Country organizations.  They provided gentleness, special needs and sweet care for Rusty.  She loved you all.

The celebration of Rusty’s life will be held Tuesday April 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St with Danny Allen officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford St, 79605 and/or the Alzheimer’s Association, 301 S Pioneer Dr Ste 105, 79605 .  Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com .
