Ernestine Pollard, 87 of Abilene, passed away at Hendrick Hospice Care Center on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. Arrangements are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Ernestine was born on November 17, 1934 in Carrizo Springs, Texas to John and Marjorie Harding. She spent her early years around Carrizo Spring, Eagle Pass and Coleman, where she graduated from Coleman High School. She and her family made their way to Fort Stockton, and she attended classes at Sul Ross University. For many years, she was a single parent to 3 children, working as a legal secretary and a bookkeeper. In 1976, she married Raymond Pollard and he helped change her life and the lives of her children. In 1998, she and Ray moved to Abilene to be closed to family and better medical care. They were married until Ray’s passing in February of 2020.
Ernestine was a people person and a very strong and independent woman. She loved to tell a good story and had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all, she loved her children. Earnestine was a wonderful person that will be missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray Pollard, son Ricky Morris and sister Johnnie Meddars. She is survived by her son Chris Gerron and his partner James Burroway of Tucson, Arizona and daughter Cathy Hazenberg and husband Robert of Comanche; niece Susanne Kennedy and husband Damon of Midland, grandson Jerry Smith and great grandchildren Parker, Nicole and Amber Smith.
