Edward Petro, Jr.

Edward Francis Petro passed away in Abilene, Texas on October 29, 2020, at the age of 83. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 7, 1936, but moved to Biloxi, Mississippi in the early 1980s to be near the Gulf Coast as he loved the water and beach. In 2006, he moved to Abilene to be closer to his daughter's family. He resided in the Oaks of Radford Hills Nursing Facility in his final years.

Edward was an Army veteran and served his country in the 1950s. Shortly after returning, he married his sweetheart, Joyce Hanzlik, of Berwyn, Illinois. They had two children, Suzanne and Renee. He loved family, football (Go Packers!) and reading. He will be remembered as a kind and caring soul who was a good listener with a good sense of humor. He was very loved by family, friends and staff at Radford Hills and will be greatly missed.

Edward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Petro. He is survived by his daughters Suzanne Muszar of Abilene, Texas and Renee Ortiz of Dallas, Texas; and grandchildren Amber Gonzales and Angelica Stein and her husband Zachery all of Abilene, Texas.

A future graveside service will be held at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Memorial donations may be made in Edward's name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
