Eddy Jo Akens, aka Honey Jo of Abilene, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2018, surrounded by family.
Eddy Jo was born in Abilene on January 9, 1930 to Samuel Evans and Grace Luman Evans. She lived in Rising Star, Houston/Humble and Abilene. Jo attended Draughn’s Business College in Abilene then worked and retired from Celanese Chemical. Jo then worked for many years as bookkeeper for Waldrops Furniture. Jo met her husband Thomas Akens on a blind date, they married after a whirlwind romance. They made their home in Houston then moved to Clyde Texas where they attended Clyde Church of Christ.
Eddy Jo is preceded in death by her husband Tom, her parents, Sam and Grace Evans, sister Inez Alexander, brother Harold Evans; sons-in-law Billy Ray Hamilton and Ronald Delcomyn. Jo is survived by daughters Linda Hamilton and Brenda Delcoymn, sons Mike Akens and Jan Akens, Pat Akens and Joni Gloger, Tim Akens and Loy Akens, sister in law Helen Akens, sixteen grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, several nieces, nephews, extended family and grand dogs.
Visitation will be Friday, January 26th 6:00-8:00 PM at Piersall Funeral home 733 Butternut, Abilene Texas with the services on Saturday January 26 th 2 PM,. Burial to follow at Midway Cemetery in Hodges. Pallbearers are her 9 grandsons with Honorary Pallbearers, David “Doc” Docktor, Weldon Hurt, Jim Whitney, Scott Olson, Dave DeFriese and Ronald Alexander.
