Jesus came to walk Dorothy Helen Frazer Emerson home on September 13, 2024. Dorothy was 94 years; born 1930 in Milan, Missouri, to Clifford Harold Frazer and Lystel Ellen May Frazer. She married John P. Emerson of Novelty, Missouri, on June 21, 1953.
Dorothy graduated from Milan High School (1947), Kirksville Teachers College (1951), and the University of Missouri-Columbia, (1983) with Masters in Education. She applied these teaching degrees primarily in Chillicothe R2 School District, Chillicothe, Missouri, in third grade at Dewey Elementary and Field Elementary for almost 30 years. During her public school years, she taught Bible class at Chillicothe Church of Christ because, “ If I teach for the public throughout the week, I should teach for the Lord on Sunday.” After retiring in 1991 she and John moved to Abilene,Texas, to be nearer grandchildren. There she spent additional years as a much requested and valued substitute for the Abilene schools mostly at Bonham Elementary.
Dorothy was a gifted and hospitable hostess. She loved flowers and often kept cuttings on the table from her garden. She set a high, consistent faith walk example in kindness, gratitude, gracious word choices, encouragement, and work ethic. Dorothy was a long time member of Westgate Church of Christ, Abilene, Texas.
She is survived by three children: Sharon Ann Lackey (Derran), Shari Lynne Anderson (Jeff), and Edward John Emerson (Jana). Six grandchil- dren: John Lackey (Kristina), Sarah Fink (Stephen), Eric Emerson (Katie), J’Lyn Emerson, Marcus Anderson, and Michael Anderson. Eight great grandchildren: Parker and Avery Emerson, Carter and Mavi Cone, Kenzi Lackey, Harper, Henry, and Foster Fink. One sister: Mary Anthony of St. Louis, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband John of 66 years, her parents, brother Harold Frazer, and sisters Corrine Young, Waneta Frazer, and Barbara Hostetter.
Family services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2:00, at Texas State Veterans Cemetery pavilion; 4:00-6:00 visitation will follow at 1457 Tan- glewood, Abilene, Texas. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr.William Shudde MD and the Hendrick Hospice Care staff for easing Dorothy’s passing. In lieu of flowers, a memoriam may be made to Westgate Church of Christ (402 S. Pioneer Dr., Abilene, Texas, 79605) and Hendrick Hospice Care (1651 Pine St., Abilene, Texas, 79601).
