Doris Graham

September 29, 1925 — October 2, 2024

The family of Doris Aileen Graham announces her peaceful passing on October 2, 2024, at the age of 99. Born on September 29, 1925, in Desdemona, Texas, Doris was the oldest of thirteen siblings.  A graduate of Stephenville High School, she was an accomplished artist, homemaker, seamstress, and cook (especially gifted at making delicious pies).

Doris moved to Abilene after high school and worked at a photo shop where she photographed and developed pictures, mostly of soldiers from Camp Barkley.  She went on to become a meticulous bookkeeper and dedicated teacher’s aide for the Abilene Independent School District.

Doris was a beloved mother to her daughters Darla and Scottye. She married Charles V. Graham on July 30, 1988.  Together Doris and Charles loved living on the family farm in Tuscola, gardening, feeding cows, admiring wildflowers, and celebrating each October when the monarch butterflies were migrating and stopped at the farm.

Doris was a member at Oldham Lane Church of Christ.

The family would like to thank the staff of Windcrest for the wonderful care they gave our Mom, Grandma, and G.G. over the last four-plus years.

A visitation in celebration of Doris's life will be held on October 9, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors at 733 Butternut in Abilene.  A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Doris's memory to Meals on Wheels Abilene or a charity of your choice.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Graham;  Parents, Ovia Robinson Spicer and Thad Spicer; and Sons in law Ronnie Lorenz and Jay Bourland. She is survived by her daughters Darla Lorenz Pfeifer (Walt) and Scottye Bourland, Grandchildren Robyn Wertheim (Paul), Brooke Nichols (Brady) John Wyatt (Nicole), Miranda McCollough (Ryan), ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
