Donald Lee Caraway

June 8, 1943 — December 26, 2022

Donald Lee Caraway won his victory December 26, 2022 and now rests in the arms of Jesus.  Don was born June 6, 1943 in Dublin, Texas to Alphus Lee and Edgilee (Hays) Caraway and spent his life around Texas.  He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1961 and University of Texas in 1965.  Don was blessed to have two great loves in his life.  He met the first, Kathy Hughes, while attending UT and they married December 30, 1965.  Soon after their marriage they moved to Beaumont where Don went to Lamar University to earn his master’s in computer engineering in 1968.  Upon graduation he returned to Austin and joined Texas Instruments where he spent most of his career.  Their union lasted 39 years until her death August 22, 2004.

After the death of his first wife, Don was blessed with a second love.  He married Marylyn McMillan Cole on March 19, 2005.  With her came a son, Jeff Cole, his wife Leslie, and two grandsons, John and Luke.  Don was proud of his boys and liked to brag that he had a son and grandsons and never had to endure the teenage years.

Don had many hobbies during his life, flying airplanes, aerobatic flying, gliding, biking, golfing, but competitive shooting was his favorite for which he won many awards.

Don was proceeded in death by his parents, and first wife, along with his step-father, Hal Parker.  Don is survived by his wife, Marylyn Caraway of Abilene, stepson, Jeff Cole and his wife Leslie of Santa Fe, TX , grandsons John of Sante Fe, TX and Luke of Waco, Tx; 5 Church grandchildren, Eli, Greyson, Hadley, Ashley and Zach, brother, Robert Parker of Abilene and sister Susan Scheid (Geoffrey) of Arlington, sister-in-law Shannon Patton (Mike) of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Martha Stewart(Mark) of Angel Fire, NM along with nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Graveside services  will be held 1 pm Friday, December 30 at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery with Jeff Cole presiding.  Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
