Obituary

Don Clifford Rhoden was born in Ballinger, Texas on April 3rd, 1936, and embraced by Jesus on August 9th, 2023. At the age of 87, he passed away at his home in Tuscola, Texas, in the care of his loving family and his dog, Izzy. He had strong, uncomplicated Christian values and lived his life with integrity. He was preceded in death by his parents W.C. (Clifford) and Vera Rhoden and one sister, Brooksie Ann Havins. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday August 17th at 5:00 PM with a time of remembrance beginning at 6:00 PM in the chapel. Both will be held at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A private family graveside service will be on Friday August 18th.
He was a 1954 graduate of Abilene High School, 1958 graduate of Abilene Christian University (College) where he lettered in football and baseball. After college he spent 2 seasons in the National Association of Professional Baseball League system with the Pittsburgh Baseball Club before returning home to Abilene where he met the love of his life, Dee Ana Moss, a beautiful ACC student from California. Don and Dee were married in April 1961 and had 3 children, Cliff, Grant, and Jamie.
Don was involved in various business ventures throughout his professional career including Gibson’s Discount Center, Grandy’s, and Units. He was always thankful for his ‘Business Angels’. He was an accomplished and humorously self-deprecating golfer. He had endless life stories that he told with great humor, humility, and a sharp memory for details. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and always cherished time with his kids and grandkids.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; his 3 children, Cliff (Lisa) Rhoden of Sunnyvale, Grant (Kylie) Rhoden of Abilene, and Jamie Rhoden (Ray) Cheatham of Abilene; 8 grandchildren, Kailey (James) Connatser, Trent Rhoden, Reece (Hailey) Rhoden, Jace Rhoden, Garrett Rhoden, Sydnie (Reagan) Brown, Mason Schubert, Ella Schubert; 4 step grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, Debbie Bomer, Cindy (Wayne) Williams; nephew, Ivan (Ike) Havins; and beloved cousins.
The family requests that if anyone wishes to honor Don with a donation, they be made to the Gregg Pearson Foundation at greggpearson.org. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
