Don R Herttenberger

Donald Ray Herttenberger, 89, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, May 13, 2017.  He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 17, in the Southern Hills Church of Christ auditorium with a graveside memorial at 2:30 PM at the Rule City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, at the Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Don was born in Old Glory, Texas on December 10, 1927 to Beno and Ola Herttenberger. He graduated from Old Glory High School in December, 1944, and married the love of his life, Jean, on March 24, 1945. He spent most of his working life in the grocery business, but his real love was cotton farming. He was a member of the Southern Hills Church of Christ for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon for many of those years. The most important things in his life were Jesus, his church and his family. John 14 was his favorite chapter of the Bible and II Timothy 4:7 was his favorite verse.

Jean, his wife of 71 years, preceded him in death as did both of his parents and three brothers: Jean, Roy and Malcolm. He is survived by his children: Don Ray Herttenberger, Jr. (Verna), daughter Phyllis Herttenberger; and daughter Marsha Ridgell (Steve). Also surviving, one brother, Jerry Herttenberger, of Abilene; and sister, Helen Simmons of Ft. Worth. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Julie Gilbreth, Joe Don Ridgell (Jamie), Lori Simmons, Ryan Herttenberger, Jarrod Herttenberger, and Karen Radar (Mike). He will also be missed by his thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews along with other extended family and friends.
