Derrel Wayne Chase, 76, of Amarillo and Abilene, Texas, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Following a lengthy battle of heart and health issues, his body was finally made perfect, and he is now with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Derrel was born December 15, 1942 to William Byrle & Grace Chase in Oklahoma City, Ok. They moved to Amarillo in 1947 where Derrel met the love of his life Janie. Derrel and Janie were high school sweethearts and met in 1959 at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo. They would have celebrated 58 years of marriage on November 23, 2019.
Derrel worked in purchasing for Pioneer Natural Gas and Sun Oil Company while he lived in Amarillo. They moved to Odessa in 1984 and owned and operated Sherwood Acres Miniature Golf Course. They moved to Abilene in 1991 and he worked in procurement at the Abilene State Supported Living Center until his retirement in 2003. After his retirement, he pursed his lifelong passion of playing golf. Derrel achieved not only one HOLE IN ONE but TWO!! (there were even witnesses). When he wasn’t playing golf, you could find him working in his yard or meticulously detailing his vehicles. Derrel was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to any that knew him. To know Derrel was to love him. He lived every day to the fullest, and inspired family and friends to do the same. We are all better because we knew him. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. Looking back, he was always a family man. Derrel loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and supporting them in their hobbies and events. He lived his life focused on faith, love of family and friends. He was a man of integrity and wisdom. He was slow to speak and quick to listen and we never heard him say a bad word about anyone.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Warren & Bryle, Jr. of Odessa, Texas.
Derrel is survived by his wife, Janie Chase, of Abilene, a daughter, Kristi Jones and husband Robert of Abilene, Teri Boone and husband James, of Abilene, son Darin Chase and wife Jocelyn, of Frisco, Tx. Grandchildren: Terance McDavid and wife Elizabeth, Brittany Forrester and husband Cody, Ashlee Boone, Taylor Jones, Cooper, Charli and Casen Chase and two great grandchildren, Trenton & Riley Forrester.
