Darwin Eugene Sharp, a beloved member of the Abilene community, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024, at Hendrick Hospice Care Center; he was 91 years old. He was born on December 14, 1932, in Ottawa, KS, and after serving his country in the Navy, and then earning a Master of Arts degree in History from Kansas University, he joined the U.S. Postal Service. He lived with his family in Virginia while working in Washington, D.C., and later moved his family to Pacifica, California where after 35 years of service he retired.
When he wasn't at work, Darwin enjoyed reading and volunteering. He was interested in technology and liked science fiction. He enjoyed attending local live performing arts, and he especially liked classical and country music. He loved watching Kansas Jayhawk Basketball and traveling. His favorite places to go with his family were Martha's Vineyard, Maine and Nova Scotia. Darwin was a devoted Christian who loved reading and studying his Bible. He was a faithful member of Highland Church of Christ in Abilene.
He leaves behind his loving sons, Kenneth Sharp, Jonathan Sharp and wife Jackie, daughter Rebecca Sharp, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his parents, daughter Elizabeth Zolowicz and grandson Nathan Zolowicz. Darwin will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his sharp wit, and his generous spirit. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Darwin Eugene Sharp may have left this world, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
