Cyndi Smith

Cynthia Jeanne (Cyndi) Smith, a beloved wife, mom, Apple, and teacher, will be celebrated and honored in a series of ceremonies as her family and community come together to commemorate her life's journey.

Born on November 8, 1959, in Dallas, TX, Cyndi passed away on July 10, 2024, at her home in Abilene, TX. She leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication to her family, and strong, unwavering faith in Jesus.

After being raised in the metroplex, Cyndi briefly attended Abilene Christian University and then transferred to Texas Christian University where she received a BS degree in Education. She moved back to Abilene in 1983 and made it her permanent home. In 1994, she began working for Abilene ISD.  On October the 25th, 1995 she married the love of her life Jimmy Smith.

During her time as an educator, she worked as a teacher, curriculum specialist, Principal and Director of Professional Learning.  She was selected to be an M.S. Aerospace Scholar, a Harvard Leadership Institute participant as well as a member of the Space Camp for Educators.

Cyndi's impact as an educator will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A master's degree holder from Abilene Christian University, she dedicated her career to shaping young minds and inspiring future generations. Her profound influence will continue to be felt in the halls of education for years to come.

After retirement in 2019, Cyndi grew her small DIY furniture restoration business, Blue Star At Home, to an impressive and valued staple in the industry. Cyndi is well known and respected in the DIY community as a helpful teacher and creative influencer.

Surviving Cyndi is her loving husband Jimmy Smith, her devoted children Drew Lawrence, Megan Boyd and husband Jason, Scott Lawrence and girlfriend Ellen, Jimmy Ray Smith and wife Shonda, and Josh Smith and wife Emily, grandchildren; Asher Lawrence, Jay Boyd, Natalie Boyd, Tyler Smith and wife Montana, Logan Smith, Katherine Smith, and Krue Smith, as well as great granddaughter, Lilly Smith.  She is also survived by her father Joe Black and wife Susan and brother Randy Black.  As well as numerous Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Nieces, and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Susan Faye Black.

To honor her life and contributions, a visitation will be held at Beltway Park South - Chapel on July 11, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Funeral Service will take place at Beltway Park Church - South on July 12, 2024, at 10:00 am, followed by a private graveside service at Elmwood Memorial Park on the same day. The family asks that family and friends wear blue in honor of Cyndi’s favorite color and creativity.

As we come together to celebrate Cyndi's life, let us remember her as a beacon of light and inspiration, forever cherished in our hearts. She will be dearly missed but her spirit will live on through the lives she touched and the memories she created.
