Col. Roy Lynn Dixon, Us Army (Ret.)

Col. Roy Lynn Dixon, US Army, (Ret.) passed away on June 10, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father and friend. Roy was born in Abilene, Texas on June 30, 1945, to Ernest Dixon and Leta Tarpley Dixon. He grew up in Noodle and Abilene before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Tarleton State College onan ROTC Scholarship. In 1966, he married his college sweetheart, Linda Frances Connel. Directly after graduating, Roy pinned on Army 2d Lieutenant bars and reported for duty. He and Linda had two wonderful children and adventures all over the world. Twenty-six years later he retired as a Colonel and moved back to Abilene where he volunteered with numerous organizations. Surviving Roy is his loving wife Linda and his two children, Heidi Lynn Cormier and Michael Ryan Dixon. His son-in-law Mark Cormier, grandson Alexandre Cormier, Dixon granddaughters Laila and Ocea’lynn, brother Edwin and wife Frances of San Angelo and their daughters, and many cousins across Texas and other states. He was preceded in death by his Poppa, Mom, in-laws Jake and Frances Connel, and grandson Connor Cormier. He hopes to see them all again face to face with GOD! For most of Roy’s 26 years of military service, he oversaw many people, both soldiers and civilians, and always strove to treat them as valued human beings and GOD’s children. He truly loved and respected everyone who was willing to serve this great nation and serve GOD. Services will be held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10am. Arrangements are being handled by Piersall Funeral Directors.
