Christopher Gervan Thomas

Christopher Gervan Thomas, 69 of Abilene, passed away at his home on Friday, August 14, 2020. A memorial service will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Chris was born in Wichita, Kansas to Robert and Ruth Vandenberg Thomas on February 26, 1951.  Chris attended school in Wichita, Kansas and Santa Fe, New Mexico. He attended Collage of Santa Fe where he met Betsy Thomas (Rowlands) and love, then marriage followed on January 11, 1975. He was always a hard worker to provide for his family. He worked 18 years at KMart and 18 years for Autozone where he went the extra mile for his customers. He cared about his fellow workers and tried to encourage each one. He retired in 2016 and volunteered at Christian Service center, CASA, and Jackson readers. He was also very involved in church activities, helping with teaching and other activities.

One thing his family remembers him for is he always asked waiters/waitresses if he could pray for them when we said grace over our meal. The reactions were always awesome and and sometimes tearful. He did not ever know a stranger and would talk to people he met and try to make them feel important.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Ruth Thomas. Chris was a only child. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Betsy, daughter Jenna Pena and husband Billy of Abilene, son Jon Thomas of Ft. Worth, 2 grandchildren Sophia and Abraham Pena of Abilene.

He also is survived by brother-in-law Steve and sister-in-law Kim Rowlands and nephews Nate and Will Rowlands of Abilene. Brother-in-law Paul and sister-in-law Patty Gaeto of South Carolina, niece Lilly Gaeto of Tennessee, niece Alyssa and husband Josh O'Brien of California, and Sam Gaeto of Abilene. Also, father-in-law Harry and mother-in-law Thelma Rowlands of Abilene.
