Charlotte Dotson

September 14, 1930 — October 24, 2021

A joyous homecoming celebration erupted in heaven on Sunday, October 24, 2021, as Charlotte Dotson (91) of Abilene, finished her earthly race and ran into the arms of her Lord, Savior, and Friend, Jesus Christ, where she was surely greeted with “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”  A visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  Funeral service will be on Wednesday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors.  Burial will follow at the Potosi Cemetery.

Charlotte was born in Knox City, TX on September 14, 1930 to Richard Dee and Nancy Callie Wooley Alexander. Shortly after her 19th birthday, on Oct 1, 1949, she married the love of her life, Carl Dwain Dotson, in Rule, TX. Dwain and Charlotte lived in Knox City and Levelland over the next five years, before settling in Abilene in 1954. A pillar of strength and moral character, Charlotte’s greatest joy in life, next to serving the good Lord, was faithfully honoring her husband, raising their four children, and cultivating an atmosphere of Christ’s love in her home.

Her family joined the Primitive Baptist denomination in 1899, and Charlotte proudly carried forth the family’s membership to the denomination as a dedicated member of the Abilene Primitive Baptist Church congregation throughout her life in Abilene. When her grandchildren joined her in church, she rewarded them with half a stick of Juicy Fruit gum, and when asked which hymn was her favorite, she unwaveringly replied – up to the very day before she passed - “all of them.”

She worked as a store clerk and manager for Skinny’s convenience stores from 1967-1995. Upon retirement, she worked as a product demonstrator for Sam’s Club from 1998-2010. She enjoyed watching game shows and filling out crossword puzzles, and we imagine heaven is a little more lively with dice-rolling game nights, especially with such classics as 10,000, Bunco, and Yahtzee.

Upon her death, Charlotte was reunited in heaven with her loving husband of 51 years, Dwain, as well as her parents - Richard and Callie Alexander, brothers - Clifton and J.R. Alexander, sister - Billie Rogers, and son-in-law - Dwight Smallridge.

Leaving a generational legacy of love, she is survived by her children: Nancy Smallridge, Carl Dee Dotson (Melissa), Jeanie Bone (Gary, Sr.), and Peanut Row (Mike), along with her honorary daughter Regina Gray (David). She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Randall Smallridge, David Dotson (Tricia), Andy Smallridge (Michelle), Gary Bone, Jr. (Mary), Mac Dotson (Shannon), Hannah Bone Holmes (Jeremy), Aron Row (Tawnee Rogers), Cory Row (Brittany), and Chad Mitchell, as well as 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and countless extended family members and close friends.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hendrick Hospice Care, as well as Pastor Barry & Sherry Brown of Abilene Primitive Baptist Church for loving our Mom so well.
