Charles Carroll Smith

September 21, 1962 — January 1, 2018

Charles Carroll Smith, 55 of Abilene, passed away on January 1, 2018.  We trust that he is resting peacefully and without pain in God’s care.  A visitation will be at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, in Abilene, Texas on Thursday, January 4, 2018, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, at 10:00 AM, in the chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at Eureka Cemetery, near Blanket, TX, at 2:30 PM.

Charles was born on September 21, 1962, in Los Angeles, California to Carroll Clymer Smith and Rita Campbell Smith. He graduated from Abilene Christian University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1988, after serving two years in the US Army. Lucy and Charles met at ACU, where he was her first college date. After life took them in different directions for a while, they got married on June 26, 1993. Charles loved his family and considered his daughter, Carly, his greatest blessing when she arrived on February 12, 1997.  One of his joys was encouraging Carly in pursuing her artistic hobbies, such as jewelry-making and calligraphy.  Charles worked as a purchasing agent for HHH Enterprises and enjoyed his work there, sourcing jewelry components, which allowed him to travel to locations such as China and Italy. He loved to spend time with his family, and was particularly fond of his “girls,” Alice the cat and Amy the Westie. One of the highlights of this past year was when he and Lucy attended a Hall and Oates concert in Dallas, as Charles was a huge fan.  Charles is remembered as a loving husband and father; a supportive and encouraging friend; and a strong, good person by everyone who knew him.

Charles is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lucy Isom Smith, and his daughter, Carly Smith. He is also survived by his father and mother; sisters Sandy and Karen, and brothers Erik, Tim and Brian. He leaves behind many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews who will miss him greatly.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hillcrest Church of Christ for their support and prayers.
