Charles Lee Dingler

June 17, 1956 — October 10, 2020

Charles Lee Dingler was born on June 17th, 1956 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Charles was taken in by his grandmother at birth. At the young age of 3, Charles was moved into the Fowler Foster Home. When he was 6 years old, he went to live at Abilene State School. In June of 1986, Charles entered into the transition program to the community. He went to a group home, Northwood ICS then into a caregiver’s apartment.

Charles became a very happy 32 year-old when he was introduced to J. C. and Jettie Butler in June of 1988 and he immediately became a loved family member to all of us.

Charles was known for his singing. Everyone always got serenaded on their birthday, we were all sang Christmas carols and he never missed an opportunity to sing "God Bless America." Charles loved to go fishing, bowling, play dominoes, and cards. Some say he cheated in cards! He enjoyed running and playing with all the kids and he loved all animals. But his dog Chester was his favorite. Charles had a real passion for putting puzzles together and doing word searches.

Charles had several jobs beginning at Hendricks.  He worked for two years as a gardener. He moved on to H.S. U. in the janitorial department and then to Zookinii's. His last title was the trash guy at Memommies.

Once Charles was no longer working, he attended Cypress Activity Center Day Habilitation program. He was very involved in all aspects. Charles had an eye for making things. During arts and crafts he made items like pillows, earrings, necklaces, and potholders. He painted ceramic ducks and other items. He entered these items in West Texas Fair and won many ribbons on them. Charles was no stranger to winning. He won many metals during Special Olympics in basketball, track, bowling, and bocca ball. All the while at C. A. C. he was known to help the staff and others. Charles was currently attending Adaptive Recreation where he participated in all their many activities.

Charles passed away from us on October 10, 2020 at 11:00AM at Hendricks Hospice Care.
