Charles Miller Core, Jr.

March 29, 1941 — January 30, 2022

In Remembrance of Maj. Charles Miller Core, Jr. USAF (Ret.)

March 29, 1941 to January 30, 2022

Major Charles Core was a national hero. Flying over 300 errorless missions in Vietnam and the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. “I’ve always seemed to have luck with flying. It takes a little bit of judgment at times but always a lot of luck. I really think the crew and all the specialists should get the credit. This has been a team effort, and I hope that is how it is viewed.”

Life for Charlie was always a team effort. His love of flying came second to his love of investing. Charting the way for young military families to establish wealth, he founded an investment club while still in the military. Later with over thirty years as a financial advisor he helped hundreds of families achieve financial independence.

His humble beginnings in Morgantown, West Virginia son to Charles M. Core and Arlene Hampton Core, gave him a passion for gaining financial independence.

Graduate of Williamson High School in Williamson, West Virginia and West Virginia University with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering as well as an MBA from Western New England College, which he earned while flying combat missions as a B-52 pilot in Vietnam.

On May 31, 1969, he married the love of his life Edna Barfield while attending pilot training in Selma, Alabama at Craig AFB. On their first date he picked her up in his 1966 blue Austin Healey which he proudly drove and won many awards in the Big Country until the end of this season.

Charlie gave his golf game that same detailed and obsessive passion that made him so good at everything he tried. A regular at the club, he is remembered by many golfing friends.

He is survived by his wife, Edna, daughter Gillian, 3-grandsons, Jordan, Jacob & Winston, his sister Susan Oliver and her husband Bob, nieces Margaret, Lucy and nephew Bobby Jr. and many great-nieces and nephews.

Pall Bearers: Tim Boyles, Ron Casey, Robert Hoemke, Bob Oliver, Larry Pittman, Toby Williams
