Charlene And Glen Richardson

Charles Glen Richardson, 66, and Charlene Black Richardson, 67, both of Abilene, passed away on December 11 and December 23, 2020, respectively.  A combined memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Abilene on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.  A private family graveside service will be held in Albany before the memorial service.

Charlene and Glen became high school sweethearts at Breckenridge High School.  Both loved and enjoyed being a part of the Buckaroo band.  In fact, they loved to share the story that their first official date was at a UIL Marching Band contest in 1970.  Every year since, they would travel to the UIL event to celebrate that first date.

Charlene and Glen were married in 1974 in Baird, Texas.  They spent their 46 years of marriage making Abilene home.  Both Charlene and Glen graduated from McMurry College and were always proud McMurray Indians.  Charlene completed her degree at McMurry in just 2 ½ years, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.  While at McMurry, she made many lifelong friends, especially with her Delta Beta social club sisters.

After attending Texas Tech University for a year, Glen returned to Abilene and was employed with Safeway Food Stores for many years.  Glen returned to college as a nontraditional student to earn a degree in Education.  Upon graduation from McMurry, he began his professional career at Locust Elementary.  He transferred to Mann Middle School, where he taught Science and History.  During his 25 years at Mann, Glen had a positive impact on many students lives.  The students loved being in Mr. Richardson’s class because he could make history come to life.

Charlene was the CPA for Patton Exploration in Abilene for the past 37 years.  During that time, she was very active in the Council of Petroleum Accountants, serving at the local, state and national levels.

Charlene and Glen were blessed with two children who were the loves of their lives.  One son, Adam Richardson and wife Nyki and one daughter, Mary Reagan Skates and husband Keith.  Their four grandchildren, Taylor and Madelyn Richardson and Easton and Braden Skates filled the lives of Grandma and Ranger Pa with boundless love.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Ray “Pinky” Black, and Glen by his parents, Doris and John Hogan.  Glen is survived by a brother, John Hogan and a sister, Jane Ann Pickler, and loving family members including Sharon and John Webb of Midland.  Charlene is survived by two sisters, Ada Sullivan and Eva Black, plus many loving cousins including Dee Balliew of Albany.
