Carl Edward Collum

A memorial service for Carl Collum will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest at 602 Meander in Abilene, Tx.  He will be interred in the columbarium at Heavenly Rest. Following the service, there will be a coffee reception in the Bishop Garrett Hall at the church.

Carl Edward Collum of Abilene, 81, passed away into God ’ s loving arms peacefully surrounded by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter on November 11, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born in Abilene, TX on October 6, 1941 to Carl J. Collum and Doris Vinson Collum. He graduated Abilene High School in 1960. In 1962, he married his amazing, supportive wife, Theresa Hicks Collum.

They welcomed their only child, Tera Collum, in 1965. He worked for Abilene Fire Department as a firefighter and an arson investigator from 1964-1991. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Bedford, TX; where he worked at the Bedford Fire Department as the Fire Marshall, retiring in 2007. He had found joy in working as a substitute teacher in Abilene and in Clyde. He was a long time member of The Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl J. Collum and mother, Doris Vinson Collum. He was survived by his wife of 60 years, Theresa Hicks Collum, his only daughter Tera Collum of Bedford, and his granddaughter, Katherine Roberts of The Colony. He also had a special place in his heart for his God Children, Connie Reyna Huerta and family of Desoto, Reymundo Reyna Jr. and family of Forney and Angelica Reyna Prado and family of Dallas. As well as countless nieces and nephews that he adored. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Hendricks Medical Hospital North’s Intensive Care Unit.
