Calvin R. Osborn

March 1, 1925 — November 24, 2017

Calvin Raymon Osborn passed away November 24, 2017, three months shy of his 93 rd birthday. He was born in Augusta, Missouri on March 1, 1925 to Dr. John and Sylvia Osborn.

Calvin enlisted in the U.S. Marines at age 17, and later served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. His total military service spanned 25 years.   He fought in the South Pacific at the Battle of Tarawa, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart.

After his military career, he became owner of a trucking business in Houston.

Calvin and his wife, Flossie, were founding members of the Springfield, Massachusetts Church of Christ and Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene.

Preceding Calvin in death are his wife Flossie; a son, Moses, and his grandson, Jayson. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Sharp and her husband Dr. Joe Sharp of Abilene; a son, Derrill, of Dallas; and his grandson, Stephen of Abilene.

Calvin was a kind and generous man who was always willing to help others in need. He enjoyed dining out, having a handful of restaurants that he really enjoyed. Waitresses loved serving him because he was so generous with his tips.

Special thanks go to his grandson, Stephen, who provided care for Calvin for several years. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Jody Crumbliss and his staff for their loving care.

A private family graveside service will be held under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
