Bobbie June Dickson

June 1, 1937 — March 1, 2024

Bobbie June McCullough Dickson, 86, died March 1 at her home in Abilene. A memorial service honoring her life is planned for Saturday, April 6, at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Bobbie was born June 1, 1937, in Fort Worth, Texas, to B. W. “Bully” and Joy Hampton McCullough, the second of their four children. She grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School there in 1955. That fall, she married Curt Dickson and the couple began their family with the birth of daughters Sherri Lynn in 1957 and Trissa Gail in 1959.

When the girls were six and four, the family moved to Abilene so Curt could attend Abilene Christian College. Together, he and Bobbie supervised students living in the barracks across from the campus. After graduating in 1967, the young family moved to College Station in 1969 so Curt could attend graduate school at Texas A&M.

Twins Kyle Curtis and Carl Allen doubled the size of the young family in 1970 before the Dicksons returned to Abilene the following year when Curt joined the ACC faculty.

For 41 years, while Curt worked in the Physical Education Department at ACU, Bobbie also served the ACU community, hosting backyard ice cream parties for the department, accompanying Curt on class ski trips to Red River, New Mexico, and beginning in 1972 serving as sponsor of Sigma Theta Chi women’s social club. With Curt and her kids, Bobbie attended hundreds of ACU Athletics events and was a regular fixture in their seats at Moody Coliseum.

In 1988, as the last of her kids finished high school, Bobbie was graduating summa cum laude with her Bachelor of Science from ACU. Her degree opened a new chapter of interior design work with clients in Abilene as well as in the homes and apartments of her growing family.

In 2006, she was honored by ACU with a Centennial Award for her role as a sponsor of Sigma Theta Chi, attending countless socials, club meetings, and Sing Song rehearsals. Bobbie served Siggies proudly for over 50 years.

Over their five and a half decades in Abilene, Curt and Bobbie were members of Graham Street, Minter Lane, University, and Hillcrest Churches of Christ, volunteering, serving as Bible class teachers, youth trip sponsors, and in many other ministries.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband Curt, her parents, brothers David and Stacy McCullough, and a grand-daughter, Kenna Lane Cox. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Sherri and Lynn Luttrell, Trissa and Curly Cox, Kyle and Laura Dickson, and Carl and Cami Dickson, nine grandchildren and their spouses, nine great-grandchildren, sister Jeanie Cruce, and sisters-in-law Doris McCullough, Jamie McCullough and Jan O’Dell.

Those wishing to honor Bobbie’s life with a memorial gift may send them to: Christian Service Center, 3185 N. 10th St., Abilene, TX 79603.
