Billy Robert Muncrief of Abilene, formerly of Colorado City, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018, at the age of 87. Funeral service will be Monday, October 22, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, with internment to follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors.
Bill was born September 14, 1931, in Lebanon, Oklahoma to J.A. and Mary Muncrief. He graduated from Dixon High School and served in the U.S. Army. After his return to Ardmore, he went to work for the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company. In 1953, he left Oklahoma for the Texas oil fields. While working in Colorado City, he met and married Von Dean in 1955 at the Looney Baptist Church. His job with Sun Oil Co. took them to Delhi, Louisiana; McAllen, Texas; Laverne, Oklahoma; and back to Colorado City. After 30 years with Sun, he took on a new adventure, his own propane business, starting Bill’s Propane in 1985 and later Blue-Sky Fuels. This business gave him the opportunity to do what he loved—drive the countryside and visit with people! Bill loved his family, old pick-ups, cows, planting a garden and chocolate cakes and pies. He found special joy in time spent with his girls and grands and great grands.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Von Dean; his daughters, Sherri and husband Rodney Merket, Terri and husband Joe Graves, and Billie and husband Beau Rees; his grandchildren, Courtney and husband, Josh, Connor and Carson; Kimberly, Natalie and husband, Miguel; Hannah, Blyss and Reagan; his great grandchildren, Skyler, Jayden, Ryder, Jase, Trey and Christian.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Jean Muncrief, Arnold and Betty Muncrief, and Eddie and Pam Muncrief; his sisters-in-law Betty Maynard, Margaret Colley and Nancy Mayo and brother-in-law, Lyndal Carey and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Joyfully receiving him in heaven were those who went before him, his parents, his step-mother Martha Muncrief, his sister Stella and her husband Walter Postoak, his brothers-in-law, Don Colley, Kelley Mayo and Pat Maynard; nephews Chris and Bill Austin and his niece, Karen.
Daddy worked hard all his life, and now he can rest. “But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded.” 2 Chron. 15:7.
