Betty Sue Allred

Betty Sue Allred, 87, of Abilene, passed away Saturday November 6, 2021 at a local care center. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 8, 2021 at the Compere Cemetery in Jones County. Visitation is scheduled for 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, November 7, 2021 at the Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, Abilene, TX.

Betty was born March 15, 1934 in Avoca, TX to Horace Morgan and Willie Frances Crain Kelso. She was one of six children. Betty was raised on the family farm in Jones County and attended Hawley High School.

She married Simmie O. Allred on March 23, 1952 at Zion Chapel in Jones County, TX. They enjoyed 52 years together living in Abilene, TX the entire time. Betty was a long-time member of Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, TX.

Betty’s joy was raising her children with her husband. Holidays in their home were always special. She enjoyed yard work and gardening along with vacationing with Simmie.

Surviving Betty are her children; Ed Allred of Fort Worth, TX; Jerry Allred and wife Brenda of Leander, TX; Elaine Allred of Dallas, TX; and brother Jerry Mack Kelso and wife Patsy of Covington, TX. Betty’s grandchildren include Lauren Collins and husband Christopher of Fort Worth, TX, Jarrod Allred and wife Alisha of West Richland, WA, Brandon Allred of Tucson, AZ, and her great-grandchildren Kyndall Collins and Emma Allred. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Mary Frances Kelso, and three brothers; Kenneth Wayne Kelso, Kyle Morgan Kelso, and Donald Ray Kelso, and daughter-in-law Marsha Jennings Allred.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Sandra Hazelip and the staff at Windcrest Healthcare Center for their wonderful care of Betty over the last several years here in Abilene, TX.
