Ben Jaramillo

October 27, 1937 — July 18, 2021

Benjamin (Ben) Jaramillo was born October 27, 1937, in Abilene, Texas.  He passed away on July 18, 2021at age 83. Predeceasing Ben in death are his mother, Maria Maldonado; his brother, Hilario Jaramillo; and sister, Rachael Lay. Also one grandson,(Retired) SSGT USMC Mickey Jaramillo and one infant great-grandson, Braven Hendrix Ingram.

Ben married Lavonne Harrelson Jensen on July 12, 1975, in Abilene, Texas where they have lived all their married lives being that of 46 years.

As a young boy, Ben worked mornings before school and after school at St. Ann's Hospital to pay his tuition to St. Joseph's Academy where he attended until 9th grade.  At that time, Ben moved to Wichita Falls, Texas to be with his mother and other family members.

Ben was a butcher for 30 years, working 14 of those years at Furr's Supermarket until they closed in 1991.  He worked 4 years at the Abilene State School and retired after back surgery in 2004 from Taylor County Juvenile Justice Center.  He also served as the custodian at Potosi Baptist Church.

Ben accepted Jesus as his LORD and Savior on June 24, 1990, and was baptized on July 1 and became a member of Potosi Baptist Church. Ben became very active in the church serving on numerous committees. His favorite committee was that of Greeter. He gave great hugs and was known for carrying mints in his jacket pocket.  He was loved by everyone. By the young and old.  Ben often sang special music for the congregation using his gift of singing the old hymns in English and in Spanish.

Ben is survived by his wife Lavonne, son Ben, Jr. and wife Dolly of Ft. Worth; son Lee and wife Peggie of Hoodsport, WA.; daughter, Debra Ingram and husband Jeff of Fort Worth, Texas.; son Bobby of Tacoma, WA.; son Fernando of Abilene; daughter Mary Ann Scott and husband Mike of Abilene, Texas. son David Jensen and wife Sandra of Springfield, MO. and son Mark Jensen and wife Kim of Hawley Texas who lovingly called Ben "Jefe".  Ben had 21 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren, 3 brothers: David, Raymond, Raul, and 5 sisters: Connie, Mary, Irene, Stella, Hope, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut, Abilene, Texas.   Ben's service will be at Piersall Funeral Directors Chapel, July 22, 2021, at 10:30AM. Speaking on Ben’s behalf will be grandson Isaac Ingram.  Burial to follow at the Nimrod Cemetery.  Grandsons will be pallbearers.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nimrod Cemetery (Nimrod Cemetery C/O Bonnie Kanady 118 FM 3265, Cisco Texas 76437) or charity of your choice.  Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com .
