Antonia Bueno Jimenez passed away on March 29, 2018 at the age of 89 with her granddaughter, MaryAnn, by her side.
Antonia was born on March 6, 1929 in Round Rock, Texas to Marcelino Bueno and Socorro Marquez Bueno. She was raised in Round Rock, Texas and was homeschooled by her mother who taught her how to read and write in English and Spanish. After Antonia moved to Abilene she met and married Pedro Jimenez on June 23, 1958 and was a member of St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church. They bought a little house on Green Street where she grew the most beautiful plants and brightly colored flowers in the entire neighborhood. Antonia was full-time caregiver for her husband who lived the latter part of his life as a paraplegic. After his passing, Antonia stayed in her beloved home where she was frequently visited by family and friends. Antonia enjoyed watching her favorite novellas, cooking and sewing. Her delicious meals were a blessing and the grandchildren always commented that “Granny made the best tamales and tortillas in the whole world!”
In December 2012, at the age of 83, Antonia’s nieces and nephews moved her to Austin, Texas so she could be closer to the Bueno family. She became a member of the Dolores Catholic Church and was able to make many special memories there. During her time in Austin, MaryAnn would visit her often. It didn’t matter that her Granny was in a wheelchair, during every visit, MaryAnn would drive she and her grandmother all over Austin where they would stop at every Goodwill and Mexican Market they could find. They always ended the long day with a nice meal and Granny’s favorite dessert- a vanilla ice cream cone from McDonalds.
In 2017, Antonia started missing her hometown and asked MaryAnn to bring her back to Abilene. So she returned inMay and resided at Silver Spring nursing facility. There, she was able to visit with her granddaughter and lifelong friends who would bring her food and presents which made her very happy.
Antonia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pedro Jimenez; her infant son, Luis Bueno; step-daughter Maria Luisa Ramirez, grandson, Danny Ramirez, brothers: Inocencio Bueno Sr., Juan Bueno; and her sister, Nicanora Rodriguez.
