Anthea June Ledbetter

October 14, 1934 — October 31, 2022

Anthea June Ledbetter, 88 of Abilene, passed away at her home on October 31, 2022.  The family will conduct a private service the week of Thanksgiving.  Arrangements are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Anthea was born on October 14, 1934, in Warboys, England to Thomas and Constance Harvey.  Her early years were spent growing up in wartime and she eventually became a war bride, marrying a young American with the US Air Force stationed in England, Johnny Ledbetter.  They would find their way back to the States and settled in Abilene following Johnny’s discharge from the service.  Anthea spent her time working for Timex Watches and Masters Corporation making toasters and later for Pierce Presses in Merkel.

After a few near misses with the press, Anthea decided to enroll at the Abilene Business College and earned a degree in Accounting.  She then began a long career as a bookkeeper for Thornton’s Department Store and, following their closing, Andrews Furniture.  Anthea was active in her community, as a member of the British Wives Club and an avid Bunco player at Rose Park and at the citywide Cancer Awareness Bunco game every October.

Anthea was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnny Ledbetter, brother Paul Harvey and grandson Tommy Leamy.  She is survived by her son Steven Ledbetter and wife Mystica of Tampa, Florida; daughters Susan Leamy and husband Dan of Abilene and Karen Duke and husband Joe of Frisco; brothers David Harvey and wife Allison and Richard Harvey and wife Jenny, both of England; sister Janice Lawmaster of Boise, Idaho; and 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
