Anita Faye Potts

December 26, 1959 — October 17, 2020

Anita Faye Potts, 60 of Abilene, passed away at her sister’s home on Saturday, October 17, 2020.  The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 1 pm at the Oldham Lane Church of Christ, 5049 Oldham Lane. A visitation with the family will be on Friday, October 23, 2020, from 5:00-7:00 pm., at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  Everyone is asked to please wear a mask and observe social distancing guidelines set aside by the Governor.

Anita Potts was born in Kermit, Texas on December 26, 1959, to Jimmie Ann Potts.  Due to unfortunate circumstances, she was moved to High Plains Children’s Home at age 13.  The Lynn Leverett family became her family at age 14 and she has been an active loving part of that family for 46 years.  Anita attended Canyon High School in Amarillo and was part of the State Champion 440 relay team.  She then attended Southwestern Christian College for two years and then transferred to Lubbock Christian University where she received her Bachelor’s degree.  Anita played basketball for the Lady Chaps at LCU and was the Chaplain for Alpha Epsilon Chi in 1982-83.  After college she moved to Dallas and worked for the Bonneau Sunglass Company for many years.  In 1998 a move was made to Abilene, Texas to be near her sister Lisa Leverett Rhodes and to help her with her growing family.  In Abilene she worked for US Brass, Abimar Foods, and was currently employed at Pactive for the last 15 years and was said to be the best packer and trainer they had.  She was a dedicated, honest, and extremely hard worker who rarely missed a day of work.  She also was a faithful and dedicated member of Oldham Lane Church of Christ where she was a member of the Solo Servants group. Her friends at Oldham said she would sing her heart out to the Lord and that she was like a butterfly who would flutter around the auditorium after church giving out hugs, love, encouragement, and sweet treats to the children that she loved.  To her family she was a source of love, laughter, and kindness that is going to be greatly missed.  Anita could have chosen bitterness, anger, and resentment, due to the abuse she experienced early in her formative years, but instead, she chose love, joy, peace, kindness, and forgiveness and was a light to all who knew her.  She put her life and trust in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was ready to go to her eternal home.

Anita was preceded in death by her birth mother Jimmie Potts, grandparents Amos and Annie Leverett, and Olen and Pauline Brock.  She is survived by her adopted parents, Lynn and Paula Leverett; sister Lisa Leverett Rhodes; brothers Chris Leverett and Jay Leverett; nieces Alyssa Rhodes, Danelle Leverett Reeves, and Callie Ann Leverett and nephews Dusty Rhodes, Colton Rhodes, Carson Leverett, Cade Leverett, and Canon Leverett.

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy, and I will give thanks to him in song.”  Psalm 28:7

“The purpose of life is not to be happy.  It is to be useful, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well”. Ralph Waldo Emerson
