Angela Nicole Staples

May 21, 1980 — September 10, 2021

Angela Nicole Staples, 41, of Abilene passed away surrounded by love and affirmation in Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday September 10, 2021.

Angela was introduced into this world on May 21, 1980, by the late Richard Mims and her wonderful birth giver Sandra Mims. Angela was born in Anniston, Alabama and was raised in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1997. After high school, with her family's support, Angela joined the United States Army in order to support her eldest daughter Alantria. While serving in the Army, Angela met and married James Staples while stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington. Through that union, brought Makiah and layanah. With lots of love and respect between the two, they pursued other life choices. While serving in the military, Angela accomplished everything that she wanted to in order to provide for her family. She served 6 years for our country. Through medical difficulties, she was granted an honorable discharged. Once discharged from the military, Angela returned to Abilene where she could be close to her family and closest friends. Though Angela struggled with her health, in 2018 came her greatest joy, becoming Omah to Kyrie and Aja.

Angela enjoyed traveling, listening to music, watching makeup tutorials, watching college football (ROLL TIDE / HOOKEM HORNS) and crime tv. Angela was soft spoken, caring, and gentle. Her kids and grand-twins were always her priority. She valued her family and friendships.

Angela is preceded in death by her older brother Quincy Smith (2009), father Richard Mims (2014), and aunt Brook Eckford (2021). Angela leaves to cherish her memory her children, Alantria Smith (Avian Cotton), Makiah Staples, layanah Staples; her mother Sandra Mims, Sr.; her two aunts Judy (Tommy ) Louis; Tammy Smith; her two brothers Keith Mims of Atlanta, Georgia, Jake Curry of Abilene, Texas; her three sisters Sandra (John) Renfro of Houston, Texas, Stephanie (Vaughn) of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Kimberly (Anthony) of Brooklyn, New York; her grandchildren Kyrie and A'ja Smith- Cotton, cousins from both the Louis Family and Fuller Family, along with many other wonderful family and cousins in Alabama and Corpus Christi; her nieces Alanna Smith, Sandra (K'Mya) Mims III, Addison Curry, Anise- One S.
