Amelia Cook, 79 of Abilene, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, January 30, 2023. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning before the service.
Amelia was born in Denton, Texas to Jessie and Eva Mae Lynch. She grew up and graduated high school in Sanger and met Terry Cook in Denton, at JB’s Drive-In. They were married in Denton on March 8, 1963 and shared nearly 60 years together. They came to Abilene in 1989 and Terry opened the Bargain Barn on Butternut Street, with Amelia serving as his secretary. After they closed the business in 2000, Amelia went to work for Abilene ISD as a bus monitor. She will be remembered for her home cooking, her sense of style, her generosity, her striking eyes, her compassion for others, willingness to forgive, always saw the best in people, and her love for the Lord. “ I love you. I love you more. I love you most, end of it. ”
Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Nelzine Garland, Geneva Melton and Jo Sampley; brothers Alton Lee Lynch, Arnold Eugene Lynch, Bobby Lynch and David Lynch; and daughter, Sonya McCarthy. She is survived by her husband Terry of Abilene, daughters Becky Ellis and husband Kevin of Richardson and Terry Current of Abilene; son-in-law David McCarthy of San Angelo; granddaughters Sheena Youngblood and husband Zach and Ceji Worth and husband Austin; grandsons Michael McCarthy and wife Megan, Blake McCarthy and wife Apolynne, Cody Ellis, Hunter Dunn and wife Maegen and Travis Dunn; great grandchildren Amelia and Lucas Youngblood, Kaylee, Kylie and Boomer Worth, Lena and Ella McCarthy, Skylynne, Gabriel and Lilyanne McCarthy, Ty and Liam Ellis, Paislee Dunn and Henry and Isabelle Dunn; sister Revina Diane Stanford and husband Mike; and brothers Jesse James Lynch, Jr. and wife Carol and Dannie Wade Lynch and wife Diane.
