Alma "Ruth" Heggie Hall

July 13, 1932 — January 8, 2021

Ruth Heggie Bailey Hall, a long-time resident of Abilene, passed from this life on January 8, 2021 after a long period of care in a nursing facility in Austin, Texas.   Ruth was born in Petteway, Texas on July 13, 1932 to James Raymond Heggie and Alma Clevenger Heggie.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Abilene Christian College in 1953.  She was a Registered Nurse for many years and graduated from the Mary Meek School of Nursing in 1981.  In a second career of service, Ruth was best known as an incredibly dedicated and fine teacher.  She excelled in teaching students to read and took on some of the toughest challenges in that regard a teacher could address.  She pursued advanced methods of teaching reading and commuted to programs beyond Abilene.  She taught so many students for years in special sessions beyond normal school hours.  She had a special gift of service and provided that to Abilene for over 26 years.

Known by so many of her friends and family as a woman of deep faith and strong trust in God, she studied the Word endlessly.  One could never know her and not hear of her faith and see her personal dedication.  She always had her Bible near and regularly a volume of meditations as well. She was a faithful member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ.  She was an edifier and an encourager.  She was a dedicated mother of three children.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Lynn Bailey, and her husband, Robert J. Hall.  She is survived by her sister, Dottie Heggie Garner of Fort Worth, her daughter Becky Bailey, her son Bryan Bailey, and eight grandchildren, Bryan Bailey II, Jackson Bailey, Colton Bailey, Brandon Hicks, Bryce Hicks, Brett Hicks, Briley Hicks, and Brenna Lynn Hicks.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 4-6pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 1:00pm at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.  Wearing a mask and practicing social distancing is requested.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
