A.J. "Jay" Stevens

August 24, 1953 — January 17, 2020

Jay Stevens of Abilene passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the age of 66.  Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  A visitation will be on Wednesday, January 22, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jay was born on August 24, 1953 in Abilene to A.J. Stevens and Velma “Lucille” (James) Stevens.  He attended school in Abilene and Hawley, graduating from Hawley High School in 1971 and McMurry College in December of 1974.  Jay worked many jobs over the years, retiring from the City of Abilene as a surveyor and crew chief.  However, it was his “side job” as a turkey guide and bass fisherman that was his true passion.

Jay married Carla Martin on March 19, 1977 in Aspermont and they had a daughter together, April Denise.

Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife Carla; daughter April Nichols and husband Michael; grandsons Kyle Jay Nichols and Logan Michael Nichols; sisters Patricia Rodriguez and husband Gilbert and Kathy Conway and husband Larry; brother Gary Stevens and wife Sylvia; in-laws Junior and Jerry Martin, brother-in-law J.D. Martin and wife Charlene and brother-in-law Lester Martin; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews, their families and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Joyfully receiving him in heaven are his parents, sister Jeanie Lorene and great-nephew Maxwell Ford.
