Mildred Verda Harshberger

July 11, 1914 — November 19, 2010

Mildred Harshberger, 96 of Abilene, passed away at a local nursing home on Friday, November 19th, 2010. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation with the family will be held Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Mildred Verda Ferrell was born on July 11, 1914 in Stamford, Texas to Rafe T. Ferrell and Sarah Jenkins Ferrell. She spent much of her early life in Stamford and even worked there for a time in an auto parts store. Mildred married Clarence Harshberger on December 23, 1945 and together they moved to Abilene in 1949 where they raised their three children. South 11th and Willis was Mildred's church home and she truly enjoyed the relationships that she built there over her many years as a member.

Surviving Mildred are her son Rafe Harshberger and wife Linda, two daughters; Mary Jane Donnell and husband Larry, and Nelda Foster and husband Eddie, a sister Vesta Toney, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren as well as many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, four sisters and one brother.
