Martha A. Reed Riggs

July 22, 1917 — October 28, 2010

Martha A. Reed Riggs, 93 of Abilene, passed away October 28, 2010 at a local care facility. A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Piersall Funeral Directors 733 Butternut Street. A visitation will be Saturday evening from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

Martha was born in Faith, South Dakota on July 22, 1917 to Lela and George Reed. Martha moved to Texas in 1938 and married Frank Riggs in 1940. They lived in Odessa where she was a homemaker and she helped him in their oil and real estate businesses. Martha and Frank were charter members of the 21st and Eisenhower Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas. While in Odessa she was a member of the Odessa Garden Club. They moved to Abilene in 1966 where she continued to help him in their real estate endeavors. Martha and Frank were married for 48 years at the time of his death in 1988. Martha is a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She loved to laugh, travel, sew and play games with her family and many friends.

Martha is survived by her daughter Sara Teichelman and husband Larry of Abilene; Grandchildren Eddie McKissack and fiancé Stephani Tavary, Diane Martinez and her husband Ismael all of Lake Jackson, Texas, Amanda Weatherman and husband Chris of Abilene, and David Teichelman of Richmond, Virginia and Steven Teichelman of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren Amy Cox, Eddie McKissack Jr., Brandon McKissack, Scott Weatherman, Gabriella Martinez, Emily Weatherman, and Abigail Tavary and one great-great grandchild, Emily Grace Rodriguez. Martha will be greatly missed by her 2 brothers-in-law and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Martha in death are her parents, her husband, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Fuller for his many years of dedication to her medical as well as personal needs. They would also like to thank the staff at Windcrest Alzheimer’s Care Center for their care and support, not only for her but for the family as well.
