Gerald Smith

Gerald Smith, 77 of Abilene, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010. A time of remembrance will be held from 6-8pm Tuesday, October 26th in the Great Room of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.


Born October 17, 1933 in Yermo, California to William and Frances Smith, Gerald was raised in San Bernadino, CA. After high school Gerald worked in construction, ultimately owning several successful construction companies in Southern California. Gerald married the love of his life, Jeanne, on June 1, 1957, and together they had two children, Theodore and Jerilyn. He loved his family and had a very special relationship with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gerald was a patriot who served in the Air Force and was a business man who believed in the value of hard work.


Surviving Gerald are his children Theodore Smith and Jerilyn L. Smith, two granddaughters; Christina Chy and her husband Sang and their children Christopher, Anthony, Jonathan, and Kayden, and Sarah Wright and her husband Chase, three brothers; Robert, Merton, and Harvey Smith, two sisters; Phyllis Hendrix, and Beverly Poncy, as well as many extended family members and close friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Jeanne, two brothers; Willie and Dean Smith, and a sister, Helen Ramsey.
