Thomas Hugh Adkins

January 11, 1937 — October 6, 2010

Thomas Hugh Adkins was born in Downey, California on January 11, 1937 to Hugh Hunter and Jessie La Grace Adkins. After a very valiant and courageous battle with Lymphoma, he departed this world peacefully, at his ranch with his family, in Novice, Texas on October 6, 2010 and was 73 years old. Tom touched so many lives with his infectious smile and great attitude. Everyone he knew or came in contact with, even the nurses at the hospitals, loved to be around him. The way he chose to fight his battle with cancer was truly an inspiration. Tom was a member of the Masonic Acacia Lodge #1414. He was full of life and loved life very much. He never sat still and was always tinkering with something. He loved to fish and was an avid hunter who traveled the world abroad fulfilling his dream. Tom moved from California to Crane, Texas his sophomore year of high school where he met the love of his life, Linda Lee Smith. He always said, "she is the only girlfriend I ever had and the only woman I ever loved". His family was transferred to Lovington, New Mexico where he played football his junior and senior year, winning the state championship, and graduated in 1955. On December 17, 1955, Tom and Linda were married. Linda was his rock and she was always there for him. Tom was a hard worker and often worked 2 jobs. In 1961, he started his beloved and long journey with Schlumberger. His devotion and loyalty to this company was amazing. He always said this was his second family.
Tom worked his way up the ranks where he had a very successful career. He influenced so many lives there and made many life long friends. He always boasted about Schlumberger and was so proud to be part of such a great company that brought so much joy to his life and returned that loyalty. He loved to cook and loved to give back. For years he cooked with Schlumberger's cooking team, cooking for clients as well as many different charities including the March of Dimes and PALS. In January of 2010, he fully retired from Schlumberger. His legacy of love and devotion will be forever be cherished by his family including wife, Linda Adkins, their son, Greg Adkins and his wife Janice Adkins of Midland, TX; daughter, Anna Naumann and her husband Ricky Naumann of Marble Falls, TX. Also by grandson, Russell Adkins, Jessica Adkins and new great grandbaby Kylie Skye; granddaughters, Taylor and Katelyn Naumann and great grandson, Brody Conn, also known as " his little man"; his sister, Pat Pitts and family; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ella and Gary Joyce; and sister-in-law, Dr. Bobbye Rouse; along with many other nieces, nephews, family and friends who will also cherish his memory.
