Dorothy Person Lorensen, born August 22, 1920, in Sibley, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2010. It was an appropriate day appointed for her to meet her Savior, as she loved celebrating Her Lord's goodness every Lord's Day. What greater goodness to celebrate than to be granted entrance into God's Holy presence for all eternity! A service is scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday June 19, 2010 at Piersall Benton Chapel, 733 Butternut St with a burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
On May 29, 1946, Dorothy Person married Wayne (Larry) Lorensen of Melvin, Iowa, and after training at Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis, MN and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX, they moved their young family to San Jose, Costa Rica in 1956, where they served for 40 years as missionaries and eventually Central American directors for Child Evangelism Fellowship. Mrs. Lorensen had primary duties for training others how to teach the Good News of the Gospel to young children, working with churches of all denominations and training teachers and teachers of teachers.
After returning to Abilene, TX from the mission field in 1968 due to her husband's ongoing health problems, Mrs. Lorensen continued to serve her Lord through translation work, learning to use a computer to create manuals for teacher training in Spanish. She also traveled throughout the United States and Central and South America teaching many training courses, touching lives and future generations through her faithful service.
Dorothy Lorensen is survived by her children, Tim Lorensen and his wife Nancy of Houston, TX, Beth Valka of Olden, TX, and Becky Armstrong and her husband Ron of Olden, TX. Seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren will all miss her as well. She has been re-united with those who preceded her in death, her parents, siblings Ruth Lorensen and Dick Person, and her beloved husband. Her many friends and family are welcome to join her in her new home - there's plenty of room!
Dorothy Lorensen served her Lord every moment of her life, but her eternal reward came not through her own great works, but the through the life, death, and resurrection of her precious Lord Jesus Christ. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Dorothy to Child Evangelism Fellowship, PO Box 348, Warrenton, MO 63383-0348.
