Rebecca "Becky" Garcia, went to be with the Lord, June 5, 2010. Rebecca was born and raised in Abilene,TX to the late Juan and Ramona Alvarez on June 11, 1938. She lived her complete life in Abilene together with her husband, Joe "Pepe" Garcia, whom she met and married in 1954. Together, they raised seven children. Rebecca was a long time member of St. Francis Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Rebecca had a passion for gardening, shopping, dancing, and traveling to Oregon to visit her in-laws. In Oregon, she loved to watch the sunsets along the beach. She loved to watch her children and grandchildren play softball, and was a fanatic when it came to the Texas Rangers and Dallas Mavericks.

She is survived by her daughter Esther and son in law Freddy Zuniga of Dallas, son Joe Jr. and daughter in law Barbara Garcia of Abilene, daughter Estella and son in law Nabor Basilio of Abilene, sons Johnny, Albert, and Gilbert Garcia all of Abilene. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, son Tony, her brother Valentine Alvarez and her granddaughter Marisela Zuniga. Rebecca had 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. Rebecca is also survived by five sisters Ignacia, Felipa, Betty, Dolores, and Rita.


The rosary/prayer service is scheduled for 7:00 PM Thursday June 10, at Piersall-Benton Chapel, 733 Butternut. Funeral mass will be Friday at 10:00 AM, June 11, at St. Francis Catholic Church conducted by Father Thomas Manimala, followed by burial at Abilene City Cemetery.
